Prayers for May 20, 2018 – Day of Pentecost

With the words “Kindle within us the fire of your love, ” please respond:

 ALLELUIA. ALLELUIA. AMEN.

Empowered by your spirit raging within us, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people in need.

A moment of silence

Through all of human history, we have gathered around fire for light, warmth, protection, community, and the gift of cooking. You are the fire which calls us to love, service, and life eternal.

ALLELUIA. ALLELUIA. AMEN.

Your creating and re-creating spirit renews us by day and replenishes us by night. Breathe into our lives and our church new visions and ever-deepening dreams of life together with you and one another. Let us live always in the waters of baptism and the fire of a divine spirit forever roaming the earth.

ALLELUIA. ALLELUIA. AMEN.

Your spirit invites us to participate in your love by tenderly caring for our earth. Guide our hands as we push seeds into earth and look to the harvest to come. Let us conserve your gift of water, upon which all life depends. May we gaze at sun by day and moon by night, ever-thankful for the wonder of it all.

ALLELUIA. ALLELUIA. AMEN.

Your spirit sighs and suffers with us and for us in all that life offers. Make us hear your voice rustling through leaves in the wind, in the whispers of those we encounter, in our puzzlements and in our celebrations.

ALLELUIA. ALLELUIA. AMEN.

Your spirit makes us one community of faith; let us learn from different traditions and teachings of wisdom religions world-wide. We pray especially for our partner Anglican Church of Canada, Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, the  Bishop in your region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Grace Lutheran in Dawson Creek and Interim Pastor Terry Martin, Deo in Salmon Arm and Pastor Erik Bjorgan, and our Global Mission Companion, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peru.

Your spirit of healing moves around and through us like a child of promise. Teach us to grab hold of the help you offer us, and make us part of the assistance you provide to others. Teach us the power of sharing that strengthens and sustains us.
