Prayers for August 5, 2018 – Time After Pentecost

With the words “Lord, in your kindness, ” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Trusting in your abundance, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people who are hungry and needy.

A moment of silence

In creating us as your children, you called our senses into being and said they are good. Make us aware of all that we experience in holy flesh: the tasting and touching, smelling, our hearing and seeing. Make us alert to the grand mystery of life, as we walk through it–ever alert to you in our midst.

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

In creating the good earth, you provide constant reminders of plenty and promise. You thought up the textures of earth and the power of wind. As we ponder this world, give us and open, the courage to laugh and to cry, an open heart, and hands ready to protect our home.

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Enable the nations to rise up and hold hands in joint work towards peace and fairness. Save us from the continuing horrors of mass shootings and bombers. When we feel confused and overwhelmed, resurrect our hope and struggle.

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

You have brought us together at this time and in this place. Bless our congregations, those who are here today and those who are away. May we grow ever closer in holy friendship.

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Join us with Christians in all times and places, and build our connections with them. Bless our continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, the Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, the Bishop in your region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: St. Paul Lutheran in Maple Ridge and Pastor Roland Ziprick and Matsqui in Matsqui and Interim Pastor Art McCaughan.

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Open our eyes to the hungry people everywhere, both for our bodies and for our spirits. Make us find ways to reach out to those who are frightened and fatigued by life. Remind us that Jesus has taught us how we are all one body in faith. We pray especially for those we name aloud or in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

Lord, in your kindness

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Taking your hands in ours and walking with us daily, we praise in the name of Jesus.

 AMEN.
