Prayers for September 2, 2018 – Time After Pentecost

With the words “O God who has planted your love within us” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Trusting that you give us a way of being fully alive, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people who are hungry and needy.

A moment of silence

Compassionate God, in Jesus you painted us a picture of what how your word looks in our world of flesh and blood. Teach us to make our own lives a portrait of welcoming strangers, healing the hurting, and caring for the orphan. Make your church one that stands strong against oppression and cruelty.

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Creative God, we pray for farmers and gardeners as the brisk night air signals harvest time. Bless the good earth as it readies itself for the time of winter rest and rejuvenation. Make us more and more aware that we are part of all creation–not above or below other creatures but equal to all.

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Bountiful God, we pray for our communities, our country, and our world. Give us the desire and dedication to bring about fair and just government. Weigh the minds of leaders everywhere with the need to share wealth and do good. Watch over refugees and immigrants as we welcome them into Canadian life.

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Welcoming God, call us to serve our communities. Make us make friends with our neighbours. Let us invite others to gather around our tables and, through good food and shared stories, make us build places where people are safe and valued.

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

God of community, bless our continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, their Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, their Bishop in your region, and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Our Redeemer Lutheran in Penticton and Pastor Curtis Aguirre and Trinity in  Port Alberni and Pastor Brenda Nestegaard Paul.

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

Loving God, remind us to take our compassion with us wherever we walk in the coming week. Use our hearts and hands to touch those around us with grace. Help us take seriously our vocation as Christians so that we participate in giving water to the thirsty ones, food to the hungry, and comfort to the sick and lonely. We pray especially for those we name aloud or silently in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

O God who has planted your love within us

HEAR US AND BLESS US.

We join with all the saints, living and dead, in the grand pilgrimage you offer us in life with you. Alleluia. Alleluia.

 AMEN.
