Prayers for September 16, 2018 – Time After Pentecost

With the words “Creator of the stars and sun,” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR US, WE PRAY.

In the morning that is yours and the evening that follows, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people who are hungry and needy.

A moment of silence

O God, you call your beloved ones and bless us with wonders, small and large, day by day. Give your people and your church power to reach into the lives of others with acceptance and understanding. Make us aware each and every moment that there is always enough love to go around.

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

You call upon us to listen to and learn from environmentalists about how to walk more gently upon the earth. Make us open to new and better ways to live on our wobbly earth and ensure food and water for all. Let us fight against all moves to change water into a commodity instead of the birthright of all humans, plants, and animals.

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

You offer to renew our leaders in the fairness and wisdom that their roles demand of them. Help them turn to you when they are lost. Make them find their way into the mysteries of creation so that the sheer wonder of it causes them to choose the best path and policies.

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

You invite us to follow you with the proven strength of our faith tradition and with open hearts to the gospel for a changing world. Give us courage to face the fear of the unknown, of translating ancient texts into up-to-the-minute truths. Help us to trust you when our paths twist and turn.

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

You bless the continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, their Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, their Bishop in your region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: St. Paul in Prince Rupert and Pastor Diana Edis and Our Saviour in Richmond and Pastor Christoph Reiners.

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

You offer us your very self when we are lonely, injured, or ill. Teach us the often hard lessons of healing, healing that sometimes comes in a different form than what we seek. May we know the embrace of loved ones, the touch of a kind hand, the strength of prayer. Hear our petitions for those whose names we say aloud or silently in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

Creator of the stars and sun

HEAR US, WE PRAY.

We join in remembering Hildegard von Bingen, the 12th century mystic and writer whose hymns echo with the intimacy of God. In the name of Trinity,

 AMEN.
