Prayers for September 23, 2018 – Time After Pentecost (Autumn)

With the words “You have called us by name, and we are yours,” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR OUR PRAYER.

In the morning that is yours and the evening that follows, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people who are hungry and needy.

A moment of silence

O God of transformation, you call us to create a community of caring in this place. Grant your church power to reach deeply into the lives of others in life-changing ways. Make us constantly aware that your universe is one of beauty and abundance.

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

O God of a plentiful planet, you invite us to share in your creation by appreciating singing whales and buzzing honeybees. Glaciers and deserts, mountains and seaside all point to your glory. Make us care for this world with the tenderness of a mother cradling her newborn at her breast.

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

O God of justice, plant your thinking in the minds of rulers, so that governments create societies that seek the common good. Enable us to take actions large and small that protect those who are most vulnerable. When we are blessed with strength, let us offer ourselves to do your work.

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

O God of welcome, you place children among us and call us to cherish them and teach them how to love life and live fully. Open our ears to the wisdom of the young that we may learn from them as they learn from us. May we keep child-like wonder alive as we move through life.

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

You bless the continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, their Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, their Bishop in your region, and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Living Faith in Sechelt and Interim Pastor Richard Hergesheimer and Lord of Life Mission in Sandspit and Interim Pastor Jim Whaley.

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

O God of health and wholeness, reconcile the conflicts and disputes that rend lives apart. Teach us to stand by people crippled by trauma and difficulties. In times of illness and brokenness, help us find your still point in our distress. Hear our petitions for those whose names we say aloud or silently in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

You have called us by name, and we are yours

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Into the warmth and tenderness of your love, we commend our prayers today and always.

 AMEN.
