Prayers for October 28, 2018 – Reformation Sunday

With the words “You come to us in wind and flame; your erase our shame,” please respond with the words:

 HEAR US, WE PRAY

Believing in your faithfulness, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and all who yearn for wholeness and faith.

A moment of silence

O God of wind and flame, take us by the hand and infuse our hearts with courage that we reach out to our congregation and our neighbours in your name. Trusting in you, enable us to show your likeness to the world by our faithfulness. Help us to be constantly reshaped and remade in your image.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Oh God, enable us to see your power in our trials and tribulations, and in our times of celebration and contentment. Make us more and more aware of your constant love swirling around us, redeeming the rough places in our lives with  your love. Move among the rains, rivers, and oceans–constant reminders of the richness of creation.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Free us from the lies we tell ourselves and others in order to justify our thoughts and actions. Lead us to speak truthfully and listen humbly to you and your wisdom when expressed by others.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Come to us in ways beyond our fears and beyond our wants that the wind of your spirit infuse our lives with peace and inner plenty. Let us move through our days with gentleness and generosity.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Move among the nations that refugees find homes and conflicts cease. Make us part of efforts to sow peace by our prayers and our actions. Help us find an ever-closer relationship to our God of all comfort and our Father of compassion.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Make us sensitive to the pain within and around us, that we become more and more motivated to alleviate pain. Teach us to reach out to others in ways that meet their unique suffering in ways that really matter.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Move us to ever-closer communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, and their Bishop in your Region, the Roman Catholic Church and their Bishop in your Region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: St. Peter’s Estonian in Vancouver and Pastor Algur Kaerma and Peace in Vernon and Pastor David Hunter.

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

Be a safe place, a blessed place, for those in need of comfort. Make us part of a chain of humanity offering hands and hearts to those in need. Touch the imprisoned, the ill, and the dying. Hear our petitions for those whose names we say aloud or silently in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

You come to us in wind and flame; you erase our shame  HEAR US, WE PRAY

We thank you for your Holy Spirit’s work within and among us, ever-reforming us as your fervent followers. In Jesus’ name.

 AMEN.
