Prayers for December 16, 2018 – Third Sunday of Advent

With the words “Oh God of radical generosity,” you are invited to respond:

Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Together with people of hope who wait upon you in all times and all places, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and all who yearn for wholeness and spiritual wealth.

A moment of silence

As we, like John, prepare the way of the Lord, let us look around us for signs of his coming. Let us see him in homeless hands outstretched, hear him in songs sung professionally and somewhat off-key, meet him in the dark and confusing times. Let us proclaim the joy of Creator Spirit with us now, with us tomorrow, and ever-coming again.

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Grant joy and healing to the hurting places of the world: where humans have ravaged creation, where cruelty triumphs, and confusion reigns. Let us trust that you are a God of healing who keeps your promises, and invites us to be his instruments of health and help.

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Grant us a peace that radiates out from our hearts and minds, from our intentions and our actions. Give us mercy that we may pass it on, pass it around, so that wholeness can reign community by community, country by country.

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Grant peace and healing to those who are oppressed by post-traumatic stress disorder, especially soldiers and veterans and their families. Cast your healing glance on all others who suffer from the lasting effects of trauma in the lives of so many. We hold up all those who are ill and those who mourn, especially those we name aloud or in our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Grant growing richness in our partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada, Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Chetwynd Shared Ministry in Chetwynd and Christ Lutheran in Chilliwack and Pastor Dean Andersen.

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

Grant transforming love to foster families accepting new children; for grandparents raising grandchildren; for single parents challenged by the heavy demands upon them. Fill them with your strength and comfort.

“We cast our prayers against the stars of  winter night,”  Hear us, we pray.

Grant us genuine gratitude for the pastors, teachers, leaders, friends, and neighbours who have nourished us in our journey of faith. Humble us with the joy and responsibility to also be guides for those believers growing up among us now.

“Oh God of radical generosity,”  Hear our prayer. Alleluia.

You are the joy of human hearts yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We entrust our deepest prayers to you in the name of the Christ. AMEN.
