Prayers for February 24, 2019 –Seventh Sunday after Epiphany

Knowing that we live in a fractured age of high anxiety, we pray for peace in our concerns for the life of the faithful, the world, and all those in need.

A moment of silence

Fill us with a spirit of generosity that defies logic. Teach us to let go of the hurts and wrongs done us that we truly are able to enter in to the reality and power of forgiveness. Teach us to find ways that our unique talents can be used to participate in your work.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

Grant seasonable weather for the panting and harvesting of crops—and motivate us to mitigate the disruption caused by so many of our modern “interventions” that disrupt the balance of the earth’s innate wisdom. Bless all those who tend the plants and animals that provide us food. Inspire them to do so in ways kind and respectful to all living things.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

Give wisdom to researchers and leaders who work to resolve the complex issues facing our world. Grant creativity to those who teach peace and reconciliation to communities in conflict. And insert integrity into all efforts to mitigate the after-effects of earthquakes, droughts, and major storms and the peoples affected by them.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

Walk beside those in need, whether they lack food, shelter, or access to medical care. Make useful and properly paid work to all those who seek to support themselves and their loved ones. We pray especially for those we name aloud or in our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

Move us to give freely of our financial resources and our personal gifts in service of your loving care in our world. Inspire us to be careful stewards of our wealth that our families and communities benefit from the most that can be done with what we are given.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

Give us ever-renewed energy as we pursue partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Ascension in Nelson, Mount Zion in New Westminster and Pastor Marlys Moen, and Surrey Urban Mission Society and Director Mike Musgrove.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer

Let us take time to honour our ancestors, all those in our families and in our lives who have inspired us and conspired to bring forth in us the best that we are. Even as we face the reality of our own eventual death, engage us in lives that leave a legacy of love and faithfulness in generations to come.

“May we have the strength of eagle’s wings and the faith to fly to new heights” Hear our prayer.

All this we pray, resting on the example set by Jesus, a humble rabbi and faithful servant. AMEN.
