Fifth Sunday in Lent (March 25, 2012)

(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Lord, in your mercy” you are invited to respond…
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. We cry to you for help, O God, praying at this time for the church, the world and all those who are in need.

A brief silence.

2. We thank you for choosing us to be your children of the new covenant. You have written a new covenant on our hearts. We pray for those who have been and those who are about to be, washed in the waters of baptism. We pray also their families and their sponsors.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

3. We pray for wilderness lands, national parks and forests. We pray for animals coming out of hibernation, for wolves, for serpents, and for creatures that frighten us even as they intrigue us. Teach us compassion and gratitude for all the inhabitants of the earth
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

4. We pray for all congregations who, in their worship and in their daily ministries, lift up the cross of Christ. We pray for our partner Anglican Church of Canada and FOR our neighboring communities of faith. We pray in particular for our sister congregations: Our Savior Lutheran Church in Richmond and their pastor, Tim Le Drew; for St Paul Lutheran church in Prince Rupert, their pastor Jim Whalley and their Intern Pastor Karen Stepko; May all who serve the church experience personal fulfillment in their ministry.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

5. You seek to draw all people to yourself. We pray for nations preparing for elections, for countries suffering from fires, floods, storms or famines, and we pray for those individuals who have fled human turmoil in their search for security.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

6. You know the troubles of our souls. We pray for those waiting for answers to their prayers; and for those who are sick in body or spirit, we pray especially at this time for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart…

May God sustain all who are suffering. May we be instruments of healing in this coming week.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

7. Holy God, you are with us in our sorrows and in our joys:
– we thank you for those who have the gift of another birthday or another
anniversary, and for those who have known the gift of new life.
– we thank for mystery and the power of the Cross ;
– Finally we thank you for those blessings we name aloud at this time….

May we continue to recognize your presence in all that life brings.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

8. You are the source of eternal salvation. We remember before you the faithful witnesses who have gone before us and who now rest forever in your peace. Give us that peace and that faith.
Lord, in your mercy:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

9. Now indeed is the acceptable time to offer our prayers to you, God of grace and of truth. Receive them in your mercy, and grant us and our neighbor all that we need. AMEN
