Day One of 2012 BC Synod Convention: Thursday, May 10th.
We all made it. Some of us (like me) were a bit late, but nevertheless, we’re here, at Mount Zion Lutheran in New Westminster. It’s exciting to see people gathered from all over the province. Lots of familiar faces here as delegates, super-helpful volunteers, visitors. Lots of unfamiliar faces too — which is undoubtedly a good opportunity for us all as we spend some time together over the next 3 days.
Perhaps someone who was here for the opening worship service could comment below on what it was like. I was not there, but some photos from the worship service can be found at facebook.com/BCsynod.
I arrived in time for the first business session, which, as usual, was a time of introductions — for newly minted rostered ministers and other people who have recently become part of life in our synod… For esteemed guests, such as Bishop Michael Ingham, of the New Westminster Diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada, and Rev. Bodil Toftdahl, of the Danish Lutheran Church. All very pleasant people. It was good to have them there tonight.
Tonight’s business session was brief and very light, which was good, as it left more time to enjoy the exceptional hospitality of our hosts at Mt. Zion before returning to the hotel for what is certain to be an early bedtime for those of us who spent much of this day travelling. No doubt there will be some heavier lifting to attend to tomorrow!
