(Click here to download a copy of the prayers)

(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Spirit of God” you are invited to respond…

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1.     1. In communion with the saints of every time and place, let us pray for the church, those in need and all of God’s creation.

A brief silence.

2.     2. God of our salvation, strengthen your church in its witness to your redeeming grace, and inspire it to feed a hungry world with the bread of life.

Spirit of God:

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

3.     3. Mighty God, on this day of remembrance we remember those in the past and those in the present who have given their life so that others would know peace and security.  We remember in thankfulness the young and old, the men and women who in the past freely chose to heed your call to serve.  Now today, on this day of remembrance, we pray that whether we are young or old, man or woman, even in times of peace we would heed your call to serve the church, the community and the world in pain.

Spirit of God:

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

4.     4. Holy one, creator of the stars of heaven, innumerable galaxies shine with your glory.  We live daily in awe and deep thankfulness for your power and for your gifts.  Keep us and the universe in your continual care.

Spirit of God:

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

5.     5. Set free those who live in poverty, who grieve with loved ones, who lie close to death or who suffer from illness of mind, body or soul.  We pray especially for those we name aloud or quietly at this time…

          May all be strengthened in their body and their spirit, and keep caregivers

          strong in their daily ministry.

          Spirit of God:

          HEAR OUR PRAYER.

6.     6. Spirit of God, empower all communities of faith who seek to serve and call others into a life of service.  We pray for our partner Anglican Church of Canada along with our sister congregations in the BC Synod:  in particular we pray for Lutheran church of the Cross in Victoria and their pastor, Lyle McKenzie; and also in Victoria, Good Shepherd Lutheran church and their pastors Ed Mackinley and Gunther Sandl. Continue to keep all communities of faith strong in their life of service and worship.

Spirit of God:

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

7.     7. We praise you for the witness of the saints of old, and we wait with them the fulfillment of your resurrection promises.

Spirit of God

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

8.     8. Lord, we thank you for our many blessings:  we thank you for those who are celebrating graduations, marriages and other special events during this season.

         we thank you for those who have the gift of another birthday or another anniversary, and for those who have known the gift of new life:

         we thank you for those in the past and in the present who serve their country and their community;

         We thank you for all those who care for us;

         Finally we thank you for those special blessings we name aloud at this time….

May all know the blessing of a life of service for others.

           Spirit of God:

           HEAR OUR PRAYER.

9.     9. Hear our prayers, faithful God, and renew us by your spirit, that we may joyfully love and serve you and one another through Jesus Christ our Lord.  AMEN.
