(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Spirit of God” you are invited to respond…
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. Filled with expectation and with longing, let us pray for the church, those in need, and for all of God’s creation.

A brief silence.

2. Let us pray for the visible unity of the church, for increasing and cooperative love among Roman Catholic, Orthodox and protectant Christians; and let us pray for our own denomination and its leaders. Strengthen our bond between each other and help us to uphold our Bishops and our leaders in their ministry.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

3. Lord of the church, empower all communities of faith in their ministries. We pray for our partner Anglican Church of Canada along with our sister congregations in the BC Synod: in particular we pray for Peace Lutheran Church in Abbotsford and their pastor, Christoph Reiners; for Emmaus Lutheran Church in Burnaby and their pastor, Jukka Joensuu; and for Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Smithers and their pastor, Margaret Powell. In this Advent Seasons sustain and encourage all with the assurance you will come, and that you continue to come in Word and Sacrament and as we sing together our hymns of praise.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

4. Let us pray for the many nations in distress; for soldiers and civilians, for world leaders and local governments; for refugees and prisoners; for subsistent farmers and owners of small struggling businesses. Guide them and sustain them all in their endeavors.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

5. Let us pray for the youth, working parents, the single persons, the shut-ins and those experiencing difficult changes in their congregations. Keep them ever confident that you have come and that you continue to come in blessing.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

6. Let us pray in humble thanksgiving for all of creation: for the sun, the moon, the stars, the roaring seas and the icy streams, for the clouds and the trees in all their variety. Creator God, help us to heal what we have damaged.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER

7. Let us pray for all whose hearts are weighed down with illness, with pain and with worries. We pray especially for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart at this time…

Bring them strength and hope that your redemption is indeed drawing near.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

8. Loving God, continue to bless us in this Advent Season with encouragement and with your promises. We thank you for those who are celebrating graduations, marriages and other special events during this season.
– we thank you for those who have the gift of another birthday or another anniversary
– we thank you for this season of Advent and for the many feelings it reflects;
– Finally we thank you for those special blessings we name aloud at this time….

May we continue to recognize your sustaining and loving presence whatever
life brings.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

9. Hear the prayers of your people, O God, and in your mercy grant us all we need, for the sake of your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
