(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Spirit of God” you are invited to respond…
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. As we enter a new year of God’s grace, let us pray for our renewed commitment to the church, the community, the world, and to our personal care of body mind and spirit.

A brief silence.

2. God, our true light, we pray for the great company of the baptized along with those who struggle to find meaning in their life. As we leave the Christmas season of giving, may our eyes continue to see and respond to the needs of our neighbor.
Spirit of God
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

3. God, our treasure, we pray in thanksgiving for this congregation, for council and committee members, for musicians and teachers, for the altar guild and those who care for the building and the landscape. In this coming year, renew in us the willingness to acknowledge and contribute to the work of the congregation.
Spirit of God:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

4. God, the Lord of the church, we pray for neighboring faith communities and for our partner Anglican Church of Canada. We pray for our national church and its ministries. In particular at this time we pray in thanksgiving for the “gift from the heart” program of the Lutheran World Relief together with its ministry of care throughout the world. We pray for our Synod, for our Bishop, Greg and his family, for the staff and committees who work our behalf. We pray Synod’s congregations; in particular today for Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta, and their interim pastor, Art McCaughan; and for Benediction Lutheran Church in Delta and their interim pastor, David Lefsrud In this coming year, help us to recognize the spirit at work beyond our congregation.

HEAR OUR PRAYER

5. God, our guide, we pray for the people of all nations: for merchants and bankers, for teachers and social workers; for political leaders and for civil servants, for police and the military, for health care workers and for those dedicated to the ministry of research. In this coming year, may we acknowledge the ministry of all members of our community.

6. God, our heavenly bread, we pray for those who are hungry and cold today, for those who are lonely, for the mentally ill and physically disabled, for those who are far from home and those who have lost their dwelling through fire or other disaster, and for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart at this time.

In this coming week encourage and guide us in our support of the ministry to those in need.

7. God, the giver of all good gifts, we thank you for those who have the gift of another birthday or another anniversary
– And we thank you for those special blessings we name aloud at this time….

In this coming year, may we continue to experience your presence in the joy and sorrows of life.

8. God our bright morning star, we thank you for the saints who have made their final journey home to you. Give us confidence in your promises in life’s journey.

9. O God who shines light into darkness, throughout this coming year, receive these prayers and the prayers of our heart through the power of your Spirit. In Jesus name. AMEN
