Baptism of Our Lord (January 13, 2013)

With the prayer “Spirit of God” you are invited to respond…
HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. Called by the Holy Spirit, let us pray for our renewed commitment to the church, the community, the world, and to our personal care of body, mind and spirit.

A brief silence.

2. God of new life, call your church on earth to bring the good news of redemption to all your beloved children throughout this hurting and broken world.
Spirit of God: HEAR OUR PRAYER.

3. Strengthen and guide this community of faith, our neighboring faith communities and our partner Anglican Church of Canada. Plant and make grow in all your people the desire to share the gospel in word and in action. We pray in particular for St. Peter’s Shared Ministry in Hudson’s Hope and for those who serve there; and for Christ Lutheran Church in Kelowna, and their pastor, Patricia Giannelia. May all your baptized point through their acts and through their words to Christ their Lord and Savior
Spirit of God: HEAR OUR PRAYER.

4. Bless your people with peace and wellbeing by raising up leaders to serve with courage and with justice. Let the world praise your glory and strength by putting an end to the use of torture and to the weapons of war.

5. Bring to your table all who hunger and thirst for you. Help us to share our bread with a hungry world. Comfort all your cherished sons and daughters who are in need of healing and support. We pray in particular for those we name aloud at this time or quietly in our heart…

In this coming week help us to comfort those who are hurting and
discouraged.

6. God, the giver of all good gifts, we thank you for all your special blessings:
– we thank you for those who have the gift of another birthday or another anniversary;
– We thank you for the precious gift of baptism and its reminder that you are with us from our childhood to our old age;
– And we thank you for those special blessings we name aloud at this time….

In this coming week, may we continue to experience your presence in the joys and sorrows of life.

7. Call and empower us to restore rivers and seas, ponds and creeks to the beauty and clarity you gave them to us.

8. Sustain us, your baptized children until we gather around your throne with all your loved ones from every time and place. Into your loving hands, gracious God, we place ourselves and all our prayers spoken and unspoken, trusting in your mercy and in your love through Jesus Christ our Savior. AMEN.
