First Sunday in Lent (February 17, 2013)

(Click here to download a copy of the prayers)
(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Hear us, O God” you are invited to respond…
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

1. Returning to the Lord with all our heart, let us pray for the whole people of God, the earth, and all who cry out for healing.

2. For those preparing for baptism, and for all who walk amid the Lenten desert, we pray that you would lead us to hunger daily for your word of life.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

3. We pray for this assembly, our neighbourhood faith communities and our partner Anglican Church of Canada that what we confess with our lips we may show forth in our life. We pray in particular at this time for Emanuel Lutheran Church in Surrey and their pastor Henry Guo; and for Hope Lutheran Church in Nanaimo and their pastor Terry Richardson. May all your servants reflect the joy of serving.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

4. For all who are in authority, we pray that they would use their power humbly and responsibly. And we pray that as your people, our disappointment with those in power never tempt us away from our gratitude for the many who serve us.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

5. We pray for those tested by illness, addiction or inner struggle that you would enfold them in the holy wings of your presence. We pray especially for those we name aloud or quietly at this time…

In this coming week, may all be given strength from your promises.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

6. God, the giver of every good gift, we thank you for all your special blessings:
– we thank you those who have the gift of another birthday or another anniversary;
– We thank you for the bread of life that nourishes our spiritual and our bodily health
– We thank you for those special blessings we name aloud at this time….

Help us to recognize your presence in our daily life.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

7. We pray for desert and wilderness terrains, and for those who make pilgrimages to holy places, sacred ground and sacred memories.
Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

8. Hear us according to your steadfast love, O God, and in your great compassion bring us to resurrection and rebirth. AMEN
