Third Sunday in Lent (March 3, 2013)

(Click here to download a copy of the prayers)
(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Hear us, O God” you are invited to respond…
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

1. Returning to the Lord with all our heart, let us pray for the whole people of God, the earth, and all who cry out for healing.

A brief moment of silence and reflection

2. Cultivate in the church a bold spirit of repentance, that as your people we may show forth the fruits of faith: humility and compassion.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

3. Bless our Jewish sisters and brothers, fellow heirs of God’s promises, even as we confess to them our personal sins and past failures.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

4. In these uncertain times, give to your church a renewed confidence in your promises, and give to the members of all communities of faith a renewed willingness to hear your call to serve. We pray in particular for our partner Anglican Church of Canada; for Mount Olivet Lutheran church in North Vancouver and their interim pastor, Katalin Janko; and for Christ the King Lutheran Church in Surrey and their pastor, Gordon Hoeflicker. May all pastors and all disciples of our Lord know the joy of caring for others.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

5. Turn the nations from violence and bloodshed to a bold concern for each other, and for the land entrusted to them.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

6. Nurture the faith of those tested by illness, grief, addiction or anxiety and give them a spirit of daily endurance. We pray especially at this time for those we name aloud or quietly …
Through our words and our actions in this coming week, may others experience your
loving presence.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

7. God, the giver of every good gift, we thank you for all your special blessings:
– we thank you those who have the gift of another birthday, another anniversary, or for the gift of new life;
– we thank you for your daily invitation to repent, and your daily invitation to accept and share the gift of forgiveness;
– finally, we thank you for those special blessings we name aloud kor quietly at this time….

Help us to recognize your presence in our daily lives.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

8. Sustain us in our Lenten journey with your spiritual food and drink that others may see evidence of our conversion.
Hear us, O God:
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

9. Gather us around the tree of life in the garden of paradise with all our holy ancestors who trusted in your covenant of mercy.
Hear us, O God
YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

10. Hear us according to your steadfast love, O God, and in your great compassion bring us to resurrection and rebirth. AMEN
