Palm Sunday

(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Hear us, O God” you are invited to respond…

YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

1.      Returning to the Lord with all our heart, let us pray for the earth, for the whole people of God, and for all who cry out for renewal of their faith and love.

A brief moment of silence and reflection

2.      Form in the church the mind of Christ that together we may empty ourselves in our daily life of service for the sake of the world you have chosen to love.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

3.      We pray for Francis, the new Bishop of Rome that he may continue to be an example to us and to the leaders of the nations for humility and for love of the poor.  We pray also for our partner Anglican Church of Canada and for the congregations in the BC Synod: for Our Savior Lutheran Church in Richmond and their pastor, Tim Le Drew; and  for St Paul Lutheran Church in Prince Rupert and their pastor,  Jim Whaley and their  intern,  Vicar Sarah.   May the Spirit of God continue to raise up leaders from our midst to serve the church and our communities.

            Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

4.      Open the ears of civil authorities that they may hear the voices of the many who cry out for bread, shelter and respect.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

5.      Draw near to all in this holy week who feel abandoned, lonely, anxious, or who are ill and in constant pain.  We pray especially at this time for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart…

May all who are in any kind of need be embraced by our care.

          Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

6.      God, the giver of every good gift, we thank you for all your special blessings:

          we thank you  those who have the gift of another birthday, another anniversary, or for the gift of new life;

          We thank you for your willingness to go the way of the cross for us;

          And we thank you  for supporting us when we or our friends have a cross to bear;

          Finally, we thank you for those special blessings we name at this time….

May we be known as a people of gratitude and care.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT

7.      Bless the Jewish people so they can celebrate Passover without fear or insult, and grant that the religions of the world may grow in the joy of mutual understanding and respect.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

8.      Rescue the earth from abuse and pollution, and though our daily efforts and the efforts of our leaders bring an end in our lifetime to famine, disease, terror and bloodshed.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

9.      We remember with gratitude all the martyrs and saints who were commended into your merciful hands.  Bring us with them and our loved ones to life eternal.

Hear us, O God:  YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

10.  Hear us according to your steadfast love, O God, and in your great compassion bring us to resurrection and rebirth.  AMEN
