Second Sunday after Epiphany Lectionary 2 (January 19, 2014)
(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)
With the prayer “Together we pray” you are invited to respond
COME, LORD JESUS
1. Guided by the light of Christ who has been made known to the nations, we offer our prayers for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.
A brief moment of silence and reflection
2. We pray for the church throughout the world, that it proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. We pray in particular for our partner Anglican Church of Canada, for our neighboring faith communities, and for the congregations of the BC Synod: for Hills of Peace Lutheran church in Kamloops and their interim pastor, Alfred Maier; and we pray for our missionaries–Yoli Zavaleta of the Amazon Mission in Peru and Andrea Baez of the Patagonia Mission in Argentina. May your Spirit continue to call people to serve their Lord in this land and in distant places.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
3. We pray for the fellowship gathered in this place, that the spiritual gifts of each of our members be recognized and nurtured.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
4. We pray for the leaders of the world at all levels, for those who risk their lives working for peace in warn torn areas and for all people of faith everywhere who seek to reflect the courage of compassion.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
5. We pray for those who are suffering in mind, body or spirit and for those who daily care for them. May God’s steadfast love and faithfulness through Christ bring a measure of health and healing to those who are unwell, anxious or discouraged. We pray especially for those we name aloud or silently:
May all who call upon you in their time of need, receive strength from your promises and from our
caring words and deeds.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
6. God, you are the giver of gifts in the past and promises for the future:
– We thank you for those celebrating significant events in their lives,
– for those who have known the gift of another birthday, another anniversary, or the gift
of new life;
– finally, we thank you for those special blessings we name at this time….
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS
7. We pray for all coastlines and waters, for the wellbeing of creation and for our proper care of the gifts of God.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
8. We pray in thanksgiving for the faithful departed that their memories would inspire our confidence in the boundless riches of Christ.
Together we pray: COME, LORD JESUS.
9. Radiant God, hear the prayers of your people, spoken or silent, for the sake of the one who has made his
dwelling among us, your Son, Jesus Christ our Savior. AMEN
