The following prayers have been adapted for congregational use by Rev. Gerald Mitchinson

(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “Hear us O God” you are invited to respond

YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 1.     As we enter this holy week, let us pray for the church, the world and all of God’s creation.

A brief moment of silence and reflection

  1. 2.     In this holy week, we pray for the church throughout the world, that whatever they are facing they be comforted, humbled and renewed in the mystery of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection.   We pray in particular for our partner Anglican Church of Canada, for Spirit of Life Lutheran Church in Vancouver and their pastor, Clifford Reinhardt, and for Dunbar Lutheran Church in Vancouver, and their pastor, Thomas Keeley.  And we pray also in thanksgiving for the supportive ministry of the Synod staff.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 3.     In this holy week, we pray for those preparing for baptism or searching for renewal in their lives.  May they be transformed by Christ’s love poured out for the world.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 4.     Let us pray for the nations of the world, especially where violence and injustice reign and where children perish needlessly.  Give us caring leaders and caring societies that seek to bring hope and healing to their communities.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 5.     Let pray for those in need—for those who are grieving, discouraged or in pain,  especially for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart at this time …

May our daily ministry in this coming week give healing and hope to those we encounter.

Hear us O God:  YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 6.     Let us pray for the fragile gift of creation, that our world’s many scars would find healing from the wise decisions of our political leaders and their citizens.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 7.     Finally let us give thanks for the saints whose faithful witness in their life and in their death has given us an example for our life.

Hear us, O God: YOUR MERCY IS GREAT.

  1. 8.     Into your hands, O God, we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in your abundant mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  AMEN
