Fourth Sunday of Easter (May 11, 2014)

(Click here to download a copy of the prayers)

The following prayers have been adapted for congregational use by Rev. Gerald Mitchinson.

(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)

With the prayer “God of new life” you are invited to respond

  1.  Made alive in Christ, sustained and led by His Spirit, let us pray for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.

             A brief silence.

  1. We pray for the church that reborn as children of God, we would continually recognize Christ’s presence moving within and among us. At this time, we pray in particular for our neighboring faith communities; for our partner Anglican Church of Canada, for Lutheran Church of the Cross and their pastor, Lyle McKenzie and theirintern Pastor Carolina Glauster; and for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Victoria and their pastor, Guenther Sandl. Continue to bless all congregations and all faith communities here and abroad who share the gospel in the language of their people.

God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. Your voice sings among the nations. Curb the desire for vengeance; turn us from dishonest speech and deceitful living; lead us into your life-giving truth.

God of new life:   HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. Your voice sings among those in need: the poor, the homeless, the lonely, the ill, those hospitalized, those who are dying, and those in pain, especially those at this time we name quietly or aloud…

Sustain all with your presence and in this coming week with our caring ministry.

God of new life:   HEAR OUR PRAYER

  1. Your voice sings in our homes. Open the heart of those who provide mothering care that Christ’s love would be revealed in the generosity and the patience shown to all our children.

God of new life:   HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. God, you are the giver of life and renewed life;

– we thank you for opportunities to reveal our faith when we are in pain

– we thank you for being the shepherd that seeks us out when we have strayed;

– .we thank you for those celebrating significant events in their lives;

– for those who have known the gift of another birthday, another anniversary, or the

gift of new life;

– finally, we thank you for those special blessings we name at this time….

Help us to recognize the mystery of your presence in our daily life.

God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. Gracious God, your voice sings in all of creation. Preserve pastures and city parks, ocean and local water courses, so that nature and our actions would continue to provide life and protection for all of creation.

God of new life:   HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. We offer thanks for the saints who having followed your voice in this life, and who now dwell with you forever, joining their voices in endless praise.

God of new life:   HEAR OUR PRAYER.

  1. Receive our prayers, merciful God, and continue to dwell in us richly, through Jesus Christ, our life and our redeemer. AMEN
