The following prayers have been adapted for congregational use by Rev. Gerald Mitchinson
(Congregation may be invited to be seated for prayer.)
With the prayer “God of new life” you are invited to respond
HEAR OUR PRAYER
- Strengthened and led by the Sprit who gives us words to speak and hearts that care, let us bring our hopes, our dreams and our needs to our gracious God.
A brief silence.
- Your Spirit gathers, empowers and leads the church. We pray for all communities of faith that they would continue to be open to the leading of your Spirit. We pray for our partner Anglican Church of Canada and for all the congregations in our BC Synod: in particular we pray for Chetwynd Shared Ministry in Chetwynd and their Presbyterian minister, Marlene Peck; and for Christ Lutheran Church in Chilliwack and their pastor, Dean Anderson. May the power of the Holy Spirit give new energy and direction to all faith communities.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- Enable this congregation and all communities of faith to be a support for families. Strengthen and guide fathers and all men to be human examples of gentleness, courage and wisdom.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- Be with those experiencing in this country and beyond this country senseless violence and turmoil. Protect those who are protectors and advocates for those who are tempted to despair. May your spirit continue to call people to serve in the cause of peace and security for all people and in all countries.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- Give strength to those bearing heavy burdens: with addictions, temptations, mental illness, loneliness or grief. Give strength to them and to their care givers. Heal those whose bodies and souls are hurting, especially those we name quietly or aloud at this time …
May our words and our actions give encouragement to all we encounter in this coming week.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- God, you are the giver of life and renewed life;
– we thank you for revealing to us the mystery of the Trinity;
– we thank you for those who have known the gift of another birthday, another anniversary, or the
gift of new life;
– finally, we thank you for those special blessings we name at this time….
Help us to recognize the fullness of your presence in our daily life.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- With a Word you brought forth the majesty of creation: rolling hills, open plains, thick forests and thundering seas. Inspire us to cherish and to preserve them as stewards of this good land.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- We give you thanks for the precious memories of your saints who have been examples to us of love, patience and hope. Enliven us to be an example to our loved ones and to our neighbour.
God of new life: HEAR OUR PRAYER.
- We lift our prayers to you, God of mercy, confident that all things are in your hands. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.
