With the words, O God of thanksgiving and joy, you are invited to respond Hear our prayer.

As we celebrate the annual rite of thanksgiving, we pray for our church, for those in need, and for all of creation.

a brief silence

God of blessings, great and small, continue to bless and renew our partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada. Bless Bishop Logan, Bishop Greg and the congregations of our synod. We pray especially today for Dunbar Lutheran in Vancouver and Pastor Thomas Keeley and for our over-worked and ever-faithful synod staff.

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

God of eternity, you sustain all life as we know it with the gift of water. Bless (name local rivers, lakes, streams) which nourish us and give us pleasure. Guard them from misuse, pollution, and natural disaster.

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

God of courage and confidence, make us dangerous people–people who will not tolerate unkindness or unfairness. People who take action to lift others up, who care for the insiders and the outliers, who play their part in life with confidence and joy.

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

God of utmost compassion, make us the ones who reach out to those in need. Make us first among those who care for those who are sick in body, sick at heart, those who need a friend. Move upon the inner landscape of all those who have lost their way. We say the names now, aloud or within our hearts. We pray especially for those who have requested your care and strength (name those on the prayer list)

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

God of feast and festivity, bless us as we join with family and friends in our Thanksgiving celebrations. Make us buckle with awe as we contemplate the abundance and peace we share in this Canada that has resulted from the cultural traditions of so many people.

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

God of all our tomorrows, let us remember with thanksgiving all those who have enriched our lives with their love and example. We commemorate Teresa of Avila, who renewed the church from her learning from an early life of illness.

O God of thanksgiving and joy

Hear our prayer.

Into your hands, faithful and beloved God, we place ourselves and our prayers, trusting in your mercy through Jesus the Christ.

Amen
