Prayers for April 15, 2018 – Third Sunday of Easter

With the words “Author of life and light” you are invited to respond:  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Blessed by your language of love within us, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people in need.

A moment of silence

Each and every day, let us recall our baptism, in which God you write yourself into our flesh and blood, our muscles and bones. Move us ever closer to you, arms open to your spirit, that we strengthen your church with our embodiment of you.

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

You speak peace and calm into a troubled and chaotic world. Give us the time and the will to be still and know that you are God. Comfort us, because we can trust you and find the calm in the centre of the storm. We commit ourselves to participating in your acts of reconciliation on a globe riven with conflict.

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Make us pay attention as we see, touch, and feel the abundance of our lives. Enable us to enter into the pain and grief we have, so that we see your presence shining through in the background. We seek to understand the wisdom of Job.

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Move our interest from seeking to have more to rejoicing in enough and finding ways to share all we have with those living with scarcity and insecurity. Although thankfulness for Canada’s wealth and prosperity is our joyful duty, it also is our challenge to enable more people to share the peace of enough.

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Open our eyes so that we see more and more ways to participate in your Incarnation. Make us feel the companionship of faithful people everywhere. We pray especially for our partner Anglican Church of Canada, the Anglican Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, the Roman Catholic Bishop in your region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: First Lutheran in Vancouver and Interim Pastor Vida Jaugelis and campus ministry across the country.

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

You are with us in the best of times and in the worst, though you sometimes seem far away. Teach us and those for whom we pray to find the way to lean into you during difficulties. We pray especially for those we name aloud or quietly in our heart….

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

Author of life and light  –  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

You carry all our hopes and dreams, our holiness and our weakness, in the breath that enlivens our very selves. In the name of Jesus, the incarnation, the one with whom you are well-pleased.

 AMEN.
