Prayers for July 22, 2018 – Time After Pentecost

With the words “Lord, in your truth and compassion, ” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Living in your household of faith, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people in need.

A moment of silence

God of truth, fill our mouths with words of justice and wisdom. Bless your church as it practises passive resistance in the face of the evil in our world. Engage us in action and advocacy for change that benefits vulnerable people everywhere.

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

God of the natural world and the glory of our flesh and blood. Lead us to green pastures and still waters for our use and for our pleasure. Guard the land and seas, mountains and valleys, cultivated farmland and untamed wilderness.

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

God of fairness, challenge all nations to seek well-being for more and more people. Make us engage with political leaders near and far, so that they know that we will not accept poverty and hunger. Teach us to become good neighbours to indigenous peoples.

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

God of beauty and creativity, grant joy and purpose through artists within and beyond our church doors. Bless composers, writers, visual artists, musicians, poets, and dancers. Open us to the power of their work that we may know wonder.

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

God of all saints, remind us of the bounty of Bach’s church music. It is part of our continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, the Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, the Bishop in your region and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Faith Lutheran in Kelowna and Pastor Richard Schulz and Gloria Dei in North Vancouver.

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

God of compassion, none of us escapes difficulties and illness. But you wrap a blanket of caring around us that moves us toward healing and meaning. Restore our aching souls and ailing, aging bodies  We pray especially for those we name aloud or in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

Lord, in your truth and compassion

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Moving ever closer to you in harmony with one another, we pray in the peace incarnate in Jesus,

 AMEN.
