Prayers for August 12, 2018 – Time After Pentecost

With the words “Oh God of countless blessings ” you are invited to respond:

 HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Trusting in the constancy of your love, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and people who are hungry and needy.

A moment of silence

Make us welcome the Spirit’s work within us so that our actions and attitudes genuinely reflect the love and forgiveness we have received through Christ Jesus. Sustain us all in the promise of our baptism. Teach us to trust one another and build up the church as it spreads good news.

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Turn our passionate caring for your earth into committed action to raise food for all, share the precious resource of water, and find ways to preserve its gifts for generations to come. Feed and nourish all creatures in their wonderful variety.

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Lead us all to speak your truth and our own, even when our voices shake and bodies quiver. Make us trust you to sustain and support us as we do what we can to influence political leaders to make better choices for more people. Let us share the wealth offered by this gracious planet.

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Feed us here and now with bread and wine, that we may go forth strengthened for another week. Remind us that God came to us in the flesh and affirms every aspect of life and breath, walking and sleeping, cooking and eating. Bless our life together in this congregation.

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Join us with Christians in all times and places, including the saints who have gone before us. Bless our continuing communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, their bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church, their bishop in your region, and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Hope Lutheran in Nanaimo and Pastor Terry Richardson and all church institutions serving elderly and disabled people

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Use our hands to touch those who suffer in many ways. Teach us to take time when someone calls upon us, even when we too feel harassed by busy-ness. Heal all those who call upon you. We pray especially for those we name aloud or in our hearts.

(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)

Oh God of countless blessings

HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Looking into the face of your compassion and caring, we pray in the name of Jesus.

AMEN.
