Prayers for November 4, 2018 – All Saints Sunday
With the words “Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray,” you are invited to respond:
HEAR OUR PRAYER
Believing ourselves to be your holy people, we pray for the life of the church, the world, and all who yearn for wholeness and spiritual wealth.
A moment of silence
Oh God of the sainthood of all believers, you call us to revel in the tenderness of your care. You gave us Jesus to show us what it means to be sanctified and to wear the colourful robes of blessing. You give us your spirit, hovering like a dove over us and moving over the deep places of our lives. You call us to live out our heritage as your saints in our own time.
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Move us to re-invigorate the earth in all its richness and diversity. Make us modern-day saints dedicated to the salvation of our earth, of all that sustains the life we value. May we teach our children to revere the earth and enjoy fresh air, sunlight and rain, storms and blue-sky days.
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Bring peace to people and nations in conflict. Raise up among our leaders contemporary saints with the power to sow seeds of justice and good living for all. Make us noisy in our demands that leaders do what is right.
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Remind us that God’s dream for our world is a place where everyone has a home, has enough food, is safe, and has meaningful work. Let us advocate for the justice that helps people walk the sainted life of believers on fire.
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Strengthen and bless our congregation in our ministries within our church and beyond. May we take joy in the ways we reach out to the wider community for healing and hospitality. (Name specific ministries if desired.)
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Make us sensitive to the pain within and around us, that we become more and more your saints in our relationship to the sick, the lonely, and the dying. May we treat them as saints in God’s eternity. Hear our petitions for those whose names we say aloud or silently in our hearts.
(Include those listed in the bulletin for prayer)
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Move us to ever-closer communion with our partner Anglican Church of Canada, and their Bishop in your region, the Roman Catholic Church and their Bishop in your region, and our own Bishop Greg. We pray for the congregations of our BC Synod: Lutheran Church of the Cross in Victoria and Pastor Lyle McKenzie and Good Shepherd in Victoria.
Glorious company of heaven, join us as we pray HEAR OUR PRAYER
Remind us of the influence your saints, both the well-known and those in our personal lives, have had on our life in you. (You invite us today to remember these saints. (Insert names of people who have died in the past year.)
With thanks for all the saints, living and dead, we send up these prayers on the winds of the spirit moving across the world of now and forever more.
AMEN.
