Prayers for January 27, 2019 – Third Sunday after Epiphany

With the words “Revive us with the teaching of your word” you are invited to respond: Hear our prayer.

Stars in the heavens proclaim that God is God, and that God is present in you and me, and present in all things.

A moment of silence

Creator of the stars of night, ignite your divine fire in our hearts that our lives are forever changed. Set on fire our bishops, pastors, deacons, teachers, and us all that we respond with lives of service and simple joy.

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, let us so love the earth you have made our home that we chant with our Navajo brothers and sisters: “The mountain, I am part of it. The herbs, the fir tree, I am part of it. The morning mists, the clouds, the gathering waters, I am part of it. The wilderness, the dew drops, the pollen, I am part of it.”

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, give us the courage to pray dangerously, to put ourselves on the line. May we pray in holy full-measures that change our politics, our posturing, our very way of living in this world. Liberate us from our captivity to fear and ways of violence.

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, make us know that we will suffer and there will be joy; that we will be lonely and there will be comfort; that we will be desolate and there will be release; that we will feel empty and that there will be enough.

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, provide relief to those who know abuse and neglect. Feed those ravaged by hunger and greed. Walk beside those left alone and vulnerable. We pray especially for those we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, move among us as we work in partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Faith in Kelowna, and Gloria Dei in North Vancouver and Interim Pastor Vida Jaugelis.

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Creator of the stars of night, let us remember those who have gone before us in the faith, leaving a blaze of your glory in their wake. We remember especially Lydia, Dorcas, and Phoebe, early witnesses to the faith—each of whom brought their unique circumstances to their life of faith.

“Revive us with the teaching of your word” Hear our prayer

Trusting forevermore in the God who lights our way into a fruitful future, we pray in the name of the Christ Child. AMEN.
