Prayers for February 10, 2019 – Fifth Sunday after Epiphany

With the words “Let us bask in the beauty of your holiness” you are invited to respond: Hear our prayer.

Joined with truth-seekers everywhere, we pray that we do not run from your love, O God, as we plead for the life of the faithful, the world, and all those in need.

A moment of silence

In the quiet of the night, inspire us with the wisdom of eternity, the love that never changes, the contentment that survives all disappointments. Inspire us to be a church that responds to your call to love and extend compassion throughout our community.

In the majesty of the outdoors, move us to act to conserve water and steward the land that prairies and mountains, rainforests and deserts , rivers and lakes thrive and maintain life. Make us partners in preserving your creation for the generations to come.

In the midst of political upheaval, nurture our respect for other peoples, varied cultures, and the many nations. Motivate us to do what we can so that more people can live lives of safety and security, free to raise their families and enjoy the fruits of being truly alive.

“Let us bask in the beauty of your holiness” Hear our prayer

In the face of so many people in need, make us find our way to alleviate suffering and stand by those who are abused and all those who feel helpless and hopeless. Stand by the side of those providing medical care, that expertise and wisdom always are dispensed with human kindness. We pray especially for those we name aloud or in our hearts.

In this congregation, weave us together with genuine care and concern. May each of us experience a web of compassion surrounding us as we travel through difficult times and a host of those celebrating our joys and victories.

In the ecclesiastical world, move among us as we work in partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially St. Paul in Maple Ridge and Pastor Roland Ziprick and Matsqui in Matsqui and Interim Pastor Art McCaughan.

In the peace of eternity, may we celebrate with you and all those who have gone before us, giving us life and health and the strength to carry on.

Trusting forevermore in the God who lights our way into a fruitful future, we pray in the name of the Christ Child. AMEN.
