Prayers for March 24, 2019 – Third Sunday of Lent

As we journey through Lent, let us increase our prayers for believers everywhere, the world, and those in need.

A moment of silence

To the words “Hear us, O God of relationship” you are invited to respond “Your mercy is great.

Remind us daily that we are citizens of your divine kingdom, even as we find ourselves in an imperfect and often frustrating world. Humble us with your deep love for us, and nurture us in the willingness and strength to be instruments of your love among the people we encounter day by day.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Open our eyes to divine wonder as we observe the subtle changes as we move from winter lethargy into the energy and rebirth of spring. Make us hear hymns of praise in the rivers and oceans, the birds and wildlife, our livestock and beloved pets.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Keep us from being overwhelmed by the terror and cruelty in the world, that we may not tire from doing what we can to change things for the better. Release those who are imprisoned for telling and living the truths that totalitarian governments do not wish to hear.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Enable us to be your presence to those who suffer from grief, illness, and stress. Make us advocates for vulnerable children everywhere, and move us to help find ways to address the issue of the many Indigenous children and youth in foster care. We pray especially for those we name aloud or silently in our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Grant peace and consolation to those who long to become parents, but have been unable to conceive or adopt. Ensure that our society continues to improve parenting practices that our children become ever stronger, kinder, and skilled.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Grant us grace and creativity as we walk with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially St. Paul in Prince Rupert and Pastor Diana Edis and Our Saviour Lutheran in Richmond and Pastor Christoph Reiners.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

Inspired by love and anger, knit us together into community with the diverse peoples and beliefs that make up the pageantry and truth of our community, our country, and our world. Help us to overcome our own limitations in understanding and increase the richness of our embrace of unfamiliar truths.

Hear us, O God of relationship Your mercy is great.

We raise up our hands in prayer in the name of the Christ. AMEN.
