Prayers for July 28, 2019 – Time After Pentecost

Making ourselves available to the mind of Jesus, we pray for all believers, the world, and those in need.

A moment of silence

To the words “Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant” you are invited to respond “We praise you.”

Fill us with your spirit whirling among as we gather in worship, anointing us all with the power we have as your people. Enable us to use this power in building a warm and trusting community in our congregation, in the wider church, and through us in our communities. Let worship and work become one

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant. We praise you.

The summer is yours, O God, with vibrant grasses and air scented by blossoms, lichen-etched patterns on rocks, and the seaweed tinge on sea breezes. Fill us with passionate love for our earth, that playing our part in healing its wounds and preserving its glories becomes joy, not duty. Remind us that our central rituals of faith involve water, bread, and wine—gifts of the earth.

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant. We praise you.

Humble us as we seek reconciliation with Indigenous peoples everywhere and with all nations colonized and robbed by those waving the joint banner of church and empire. Make ours a faith active in seeking justice and advocating with our political masters for equitable distribution of the incredible wealth we have in this country.

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant.
We praise you.

Teach us to hold fast to our personal devotion to you and the traditions of our faith, while also remembering that no one but God has a monopoly on truth. Let us listen closely to others as they share their journeys of relationship with life, death, and encounter with the Divine. Lead us into dialogue that both challenges and renews our beliefs.

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant.
We praise you.

Let us feel your embrace even when our future seems bleak, our path terrifying. When our health fails us, turn us towards you—trusting that in you is healing, in you is creation and re-creation even when death beckons. We pray especially for those we name aloud or silently in our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant.
We praise you.

Renew us and teach us through the wisdom of other faith traditions, especially that with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Faith in Kelowna and Interim Pastor Ron Sedo and Gloria Dei in North Vancouver and Interim Pastor Vida Jaugelis.

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant.
We praise you.

Bless our church musicians and the way in which music provides a way to experience the awe of your being through rhythm and sound, voices and instruments. Proclaim your love through music as did Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz, and George Frederick Handel, whom we commemorate today.

Timeless Father, Tender Mother, Wise Spirit, your love is constant.
We praise you.

All this and the wordless desires of our hearts we raise up in the name of the Christ. AMEN.
