Prayers for August 18, 2019 – Time After Pentecost

Sharing in your zeal for truth, we pray for all believers, the world, and those in need.

A moment of silence

To the words “Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word,” you are invited to respond “Hear our prayer.”

Your word burns like a flame within and among us. Empower us for your work in breaking down walls within our church, the worldwide church, and among people of faith everywhere. Make us known as those who reconcile those who are divided and building faith and spirituality.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

You formed the majesties of heaven and earth, infusing them with great mysteries like black holes and possibilities of quantum physics. Teach us to learn and to recognize your spirit in all living things. Move us to protect and preserve the beauties and sustain the water and resources that sustain us.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

Make us, each of us in our own way with our particular talents, contribute to justice and peace throughout the world. Unite political leaders and citizens everywhere in a fervent pursuit of the best possible opportunities for the many. Fashion our actions by love.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

Bless grassroots movements for justice and peace, and infuse them with the power and peace of non-violence. Inspire the nations to be good neighbours, who seek to share food, land, knowledge, and the arts for the common good.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

You rescue those in need, using the spirit and skills of your people. Be with surgeons, nurses, and all medical people who care for the sick and dying. Shelter those who need secure housing and feed those who hunger and thirst. We pray especially for those we name aloud or silently in our hearts.

(include those listed in the bulletin for prayers)

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

You are the one God, the universal Christ, for whom we work with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Hope in Nanaimo and Pastor Terry Richardson and for all institutions in the church that care for elderly people.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

You author intimacy with friends, family, and community. Bless those of us gathered here today with rich relationships that add meaning and depth to life. Send your reconciling spirit to those who are estranged from family or experiencing difficult separations.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your transforming word. Hear our prayer.

All this we pray in the name of the risen Christ. Alleluia. AMEN.
