Prayers for September 29, 2019 – Michael and All Angels
Giving the harvest of what we are becoming, we pray for all believers, the world, and those in need.
A moment of silence
To the words “Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil,” you are invited to respond “Hear our prayer.”
God, we know you as everlasting Word. Teach us the universal language of love, reminding us that it is the native tongue of all people. The grammar of love threads its way through every holy scripture and binds people together in its orderly conventions.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Enable us to experience epiphanies of faith tucked between the lines of everyday life. Cause us to look up and wonder at the stars and planets, weather and tides, and the cycles of life on planet earth. Inspire a humble joy that reminds us of every step we can take to preserve and protect the environment.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Prevent our political leaders from over-using power, of trying to usurp what is yours alone. Instead, buzz around in their minds like pesky flies until they cannot ignore the need for peace and shared prosperity. Turn us against the actions of those who come to conquer, dominate, and oppress the weak and vulnerable.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Bless all those who make church a joyful place of community: the musicians, ushers, acolytes, assisting ministers, readers, greeters, and all members who welcome visitors. Make our worship a prayerful experience that fills our hungering hearts with divine sustenance in the form of bread and wine.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Support us all in times of sickness—whether of mind, body, or spirit. May we use such times as opportunities to move closer to you and seek your will and ways. Let us reconsider the languages we use: “fighting against” this or that disease, the “war” on cancer, and consider sitting with our experience with hope and humility. We pray for those we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

Bless all truth-seekers and bless our growing connection with the Anglican Church of Canada and Bishop (name bishop in your region), the Roman Catholic churches and Bishop (name bishop in your area) and our own Bishop Greg. We offer prayers for the churches of our synod, especially Living Faith in Sechelt and Interim Pastor Richard Hergesheimer and Lord of Life Mission in Sandspit and Interim Pastor Jim Whaley.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Knowing that you keep all our names in your heart, inspire us by the bold witness of those whose lives reflect your love and compassion. Let us remember Dag Hammarskjöld, a Swedish diplomat and humanitarian who was secretary general of the United Nations. His private journal records how he combined deep spirituality with international work.
Let us join Michael and all angels in the cosmic battle against evil. Hear our prayer.
Let all mortal flesh keep silent as we present all these petitions and our heart’s deepest longing to your transforming love. AMEN.
