BC Synod congregations offer and support various ministries that provide food and other essentials for those who need it. Here are some ministries our congregations are connected with:
Rosemont Community Kitchen is a ministry of Ascension Lutheran in Nelson, BC. The kitchen provides cooking classes, monthly community meals, and community BBQs.
Spirit of Life Lutheran, in partnership with Mt. Pleasant Neighbourhood House, runs a weekly Community Lunch Project (pictured). They distribute bagged lunches to all passersby in the neighbourhood.
Hope Omid (pictured) is a non-profit organization that distributes food to 70-100 families in New Westminster. They are located at Mt. Zion Lutheran, and members of the congregation are now volunteering with the organization.
Pit Stop Kamloops provides meals for their guests on Sunday afternoons. Members of Hills of Peace Lutheran in Kamloops volunteer with Pit Stop, and have also hosted meals in their building. The congregation also organizes community potlucks, soup lunches, and meal drop-offs for people in the community.
Shelbourne Community Kitchen is a welcoming neighbourhood food centre in Saanich, BC, sharing a building with Lutheran Church of the Cross. They work to lower barriers to healthy food for those living on low income.
The Grace In Action Team of Christ Lutheran operates a period pantry in Chilliwack (pictured). It is stocked with safe, clean, and free hygiene products that can be accessed 24/7 by those in need. It is a take-what-you-need, leave-what-you-can model. The period pantry is an initiative to provide free period products to those in need to alleviate period poverty.
