Confirmation in Lutheran church

Confirmation, or affirmation of baptism, is an opportunity for learning and discovery, for questions and curiosity. It is a chance to say "yes!" to God - as God said "yes!" to us at baptism.

Confirmation program is usually geared for teenagers from 12 to 15, although sometimes adults also want to (and are welcome to) participate. Each congregation has its own system. Generally, the program takes two years, with lessons on the Bible and our Lutheran faith. At the end of the two years the confirmants make a public confession of their faith (again, there are various ways to do this) and are welcomed as adult members of the congregation.

Confirmation is not considered a sacrament in the Lutheran church.
