Relationships and accompaniment are at the heart of our approach to global mission.
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority I heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:16-20
We affirm the importance of global mission in the whole ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. As a way of living out our relationship with The Lutheran World Federation, and a reminder that we are part of a global church, we encourage all expressions of the church to engage in global mission.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), and Lutheran World Relief (LWF) all help and strengthen the mission we are all called to do. Through partnerships, we accomplish so much more.
Global Mission is one way the ELCIC can grow and strengthen relationships with its
partner churches. Both companion and bilateral relationships are excellent ways to develop
relationships in both a synod-to-church and church-to-church manner.
Bilateral Relationships are active interchurch partnerships. Companion Relationships
highlight a partnership between a synod and a church.
By adapting to the needs of the communities and areas in question, meetings with pastors,
community leaders and public figures aid in the decision-making process of which direction to explore in mission.
