Advent transitions us to a new liturgical year, in which the church begins again telling the story of Jesus’ birth, ministry, journey to Jerusalem, crucifixion, death, and resurrection. The following are a few resources that you might consider using personally and/or in your congregation and community.

St. Mark's Advent Calendar

St. Mark's Lutheran in Vancouver has created an Advent calendar. Each door of the calendar hides a song, a poem, or another surprise created by members and friends of the congregation. You can find it here.

Worship

The Program Committee for Worship prepares regular worship outlines for seasons of the church using Evangelical Lutheran Worship as the primary resource. Each week's worship orders include options for Holy Communion and Service of the Word. Access the resources here; Advent through Christmas, Year A (November 30, 2025 to January 4, 2026)

Learning

Sumud: For Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel, a program from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has prepared a series of Advent Resources that connect us with our partners in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The weekly resources each include a devotion, prayer from an ELCJHL Young Adult and discussion questions. Be sure to watch the introductory webinars that provide an introduction to the Advent Resources, how to use them and where to access them. Watch the webinar recordings here

Devotionals for Individuals and Communities

Lutherans Connect: Vigil in Hope

Lutherans Connect offers an annual Advent devotional directly into your inbox. This year's theme is Vigil in Hope. The timing of the devotional follows Celtic Advent, from November 15th to December 24th. You are invited to join us in observing this tradition, which blends Celtic spirituality with the Christian season of waiting in mystery and awe for the arrival of Christ. The daily offerings will include scripture, poetry, music, and reflections. Check the blog, write to lutheransconnect@gmail.com to subscribe, or find them on Facebook.
