The 2025 ELCIC National Convention will take place July 10 – 13, 2025 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Of the 150 delegates attending the National Convention, 20 will be from the BC Synod, comprised of 12 lay delegates (which include 8 younger delegates aged 16-30) and 8 rostered delegates. The selection of these delegates took place at the June 2024 BC Synod Convention.

The registration fee for each delegate will be $1,300. We will once again be sharing the cost to send delegates to the national convention amongst all congregations of the BC Synod. This significantly reduces the cost per congregation.

The BC Synod policy document regarding delegates for the ELCIC National Convention states: “Each BC Synod congregation shall be assessed a convention fee based on the number of confirmed members in its membership. Under such a system, all congregations will contribute to funding the BC Synod delegation, whether or not that delegation includes a representative from their congregation. Using a ‘fair share’ assessment process, the assessment fee per congregation increases as the confirmed membership numbers increase.”

Please use the following scale to determine your ‘fair share’ assessment:

  • Congregations with confirmed membership of 50 and fewer are to remit $300.
  • Congregations with confirmed membership between 51 and 100 are to remit $450.
  • Congregations with confirmed membership between 101 and 150 are to remit $600.
  • Congregations with confirmed membership between 151 and 250 are to remit $750.
  • Congregations with confirmed membership of 251 and greater are to remit $900.

For those congregations who are in formally recognized Ecumenical Shared Ministry relationship, please consider the following:

  • Regard “confirmed membership” the same as “voting members”.
  • Using the above figures to identify the assessment fee, divide the assessment fee by the number of church jurisdictions to which you make remittances. (For example, if your Shared Ministry contributes to an Anglican Diocese, a United Church Conference, and the BC Synod, divide the corresponding amount by three).

The Convention Assessment is to be remitted to the BC Synod office by February 28, 2025, since the Synod needs to remit the fees for all 20 delegates to the national office shortly thereafter.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
