On August 26th, a sudden and devastating flood swept through communities in northern Nepal, destroying homes, roads and bridges, and leaving families in urgent need of help.
The disaster began when a suspected glacial lake outburst flood surged into Nepal's Bhote Koshi River before rushing downstream through six districts.
The scale of the devastation is still emerging. Entire communities have been affected. Roads and bridges have been washed away, health facilities and communications infrastructure have been damaged, and people's homes, livelihoods and access to essential services are at risk.
Lutheran World Federation partners are deploying a rapid-response team to Rasuwa and Nuwakot Districts, two of the areas affected by the flooding. Tents, tarpaulins and other essential relief supplies are ready to help meet immediate household needs, while teams work with local authorities and affected communities to determine where help is needed most.
