Earth Day is around the corner. This year, we rally behind the theme “Invest In Our Planet”, a theme which highlights the importance of dedicating our time, resources, and energy to solving climate change and other environmental issues. We also commemorate Earth Month throughout April; any day is a good day to thank God for the Earth.
Sunday April 23rd is an opportunity to pray for the Earth and for creation, to encourage congregants to spend Sunday afternoon appreciating nature.
Walk by the ocean, visit a rainforest, or bike along a river.
Start a garden and visit a nursery to choose pollinator plants such as Aster, Goldenrod, Zinnia, Marigold, or Nasturtium.
Plan a plant-based supper using local produce, say no to plastic, join a local beach clean-up project, plant a tree, recycle electronics, or let your imagination guide you.
Let us pray:
“Holy God, earth and air and water are your creation, and every living thing belongs to you: have mercy on us as climate change confronts us. Give us the will and the courage to simplify the way we live, to reduce the energy we use, to share the resources you provide, and to bear the cost of change. Forgive our past mistakes and send us your Spirit, with wisdom and vision for the future to which you call us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
